Cardamom is used in everything from Swedish cookies to Indian curries. The cardamom you're ordering here is "decorticated", which means that it's been removed from its pod, but not yet ground. Ground cardamom loses its pungence and richness soon after it's ground, so if you want to use ground cardamom, it's wisest to buy it in this form.
