Sansho Pepper, whole

These little peppers are actually the seedpods of a Japanese prickly ash. They are the Japanese version of Szechuan Pepper (also the seed pod of an ash). They're a vivid green and possess a bright, almost methol scent. Their taste is lively, citrusy, and vivid. Again, like the Szechuan Pepper, this leave a zing in one's mouth, and the Sansho Pepper is the brighter of the two.

A perfect gift for that collector of rare spices or for you! Use for pickled veg, a zingy mushroom stew, beer brewing, or a bright fish dish.

1/2 ounce jar (about 1/3 cup) or 1 ounce jar.
