Nit’ir Qibe - Ethiopian Spice Blend

Nit'ir Qibe is a traditional gingery spiced clarified butter that's one of the centerpieces of Ethiopian cooking.  In order to allow people to customize their cooking, this Nit'ir Qibe contains only the spices, so you can decide if you'd like to add it to clarified butter or to olive oil.

This spice mix is full-flavored, gingery, and not hot. It's the perfect base for chicken, vegetables, or just a pot of rice. To use you can sprinkle the spice blend into the dish you're making (recipes at the link at the bottom of the listing, if you need a little help), bloom the spices in oil or butter, or make a spiced butter. Just simmer  about 2 teaspoons - 1 tablespoon of spice in a quarter cup of ghee, butter, or oil. You may want it stronger, though. You'll want to test and see.

Your spice blend comes in a moisture sealed, clearly labelled jar that holds 2 ounces (57 grams) or about 1/2 cup, enough for a few dozen dishes. You can also order a 1 ounce packet, a 2 ounce bag, or a bulk 4 ounce zip top, resealable bag.

Contains organic ginger, organic fenugreek, organic cardamom, organic turmeric, organic garlic, and other ingredients. No salt, sugar, or other additives. Please contact us for a complete list of ingredients if you have dietary restrictions.
